Maine School Administrative District No 75 is Hiring a Speech-Language Pathologist Near Topsham, ME

FTE: 1.0

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

The speech/language clinician is responsible for the timely implementation of special education service to students with disabilities as described in PL-105-17, the Individual with Disabilities Education Act. The speech/language clinician is responsible for delivering services in accordance with the Special Education Regulations (Chapter 101) and the MSAD No. 75 Special Education Policy and Procedure Manual. This particular position is focused on the comprehensive communication needs of students with a variety of disabilities.

Individual Assessment - Demonstrate competence in the selection, administration and interpretation of formal and informal techniques, tests, instruments, protocols and observation schemes to screen, evaluate and assess a student’s speech and language functioning.

Interdisciplinary Team: Ability to work as a part of an interdisciplinary team of special educators including OT, PT, social work, case managers and parents.

Individual Education Plans - Demonstrate competence in converting assessment information in to education plans, stated in measurable goals and objectives that address how the speech and language disability has an adverse effect on student performance. Demonstrate the ability to develop recommendations for services that are appropriate and least restrictive. Demonstrate competence in monitoring and analyzing the effectiveness of the individual plan in meeting goals and objectives and recommending program changes as necessary. Participate in and attend IEP team meetings.

Direct Service - Demonstrate competence in the direct intervention of speech and language difficulties utilizing a variety of programs and techniques. Service students with moderate to severe impairments in speech and language, including those with autism, intellectual disability, multiple disabilities and those who are nonverbal. Knowledge of high tech and low tech assistive technology and hearing technology. Experience with teaching pragmatic language skills within small group activities.

Consultation - Demonstrate competence in consulting with general and special educators and parents regarding effective speech and language instruction and modifications.

Communication - Demonstrate competence in communicating effectively with parents, students, teachers and other service providers relative to the evaluation of and/or data concerning the student’s speech and language needs, and instructional formats to address those needs.

Awareness and Utilization of Resources - Demonstrate competence in collaborating with outside agency personnel regarding student and/or family issues. Demonstrate competence in selecting appropriate instructional materials for enhancing the programs of students with disabilities. Demonstrate competence in the use of computer hardware and software.

MaineCare - Knowledge and ability to bill MaineCare services.

Behavior Management - Demonstrate competence in analysis and application of behavior principles in classroom and school programs. Demonstrate the ability to provide assistance to others in developing instructional settings that utilize various behavior, psychodynamic and learning theories.

Administration and Coordination - Demonstrate a working knowledge of local, state and federal statutes and regulations governing the conduct of special education programs. Demonstrate the ability to organize, maintain and systematize student records, and protect the confidentiality of such records.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must hold Speech and Language Pathologist licensure by the State of Maine.
  • Master’s degree in Speech/Communication.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence.
  • Prior experience preferred.
  • Knowledge with Maine Care and billing.
  • Maine Department of Education Criminal History Record Check or ability to attain.
